White Crosses is a tough album to categorize. Previous Against Me! albums were pretty much punk. This one still has a punk soul, but touches on rock, alternative and really pushes boundaries for the band. Lead singer Tom Gabel, who still writes very political lyrics, refers to this record as his "Florida record". "I spent a lot of time writing this record while driving directionless on my forgotten Florida state roads, highly caffeinated, with albums like [Tom Petty's] 'Full Moon Fever' blasting on my radio". It really shows. This is an album you can drop in on a road trip and pretty much never hit skip. The album is that good.
