Best of 2010 - #21

The Hold Steady keep chugging away, making one amazing album after another. Heaven Is Whenever is their latest, chock full of tales of the average joe / hearbroken slob / lovestruck, all sung / spoken by lead singer Craig Finn. His delivery gives every song almost a feeling of listening to poetry over music through the verses and then the guitars swell up into these amazing choruses. Great stuff. The Smidge and Hurricane J are my two favorites, but several other tracks are right behind.
